YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

 

 

The primary goal of Huntington's Youth Development Programs is to provide children opportunities to communicate, learn and have positive experiences so that they can grow and develop to their fullest potential. 

 

PRE-K PROGRAM- provides families with quality and affordable early childhood opportunities and promotes school success by providing positive role models sand social experiences geared toward the development of character, strong values, and healthy relationships.

  • Pre-K - for 18 months to 3 year olds.  Children can attend the morning session (9:00- 11:00 AM) or the afternoon session (12:30-3:00 PM).

  • Universal Pre-K - for children 4 and 5 years old.  UPK's hours are the same as the Pre-K.

YOUTH PROGRAM- a pro-social recreation and academic program for youth 5-12 years old.  The After school Program operates Monday through Friday from 2:00-5:00 PM.

  • Day Camp Horizon- a summer program for youth 5-12 years old.  Huntington runs Day Camp Horizon during July and August, Monday through Friday from 9:30 AM-4:30 PM.

TEEN PROGRAM- a pro-social recreation and academic program for young people ages 13 to 19 years old.  Program hours: Monday and Friday 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM - Academics and Tutoring, Tuesday-Thursday 5:00 - 8:00 Social Recreation. Academic help available.

 

OUTREACH PROGRAM- for young people 12 to 19 years old who are at risk due to criminal behavior, school truancy/drop-out, substance abuse, pregnancy or parenthood.  Hours vary and include days and evenings.

FAMILY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

The primary goal of Huntington’s Family Development Programs is to improve family functioning so that each family will develop the skills, abilities and insights to successfully care for their children in the least restrictive environment.

CASE PLANNING casework services working with parents to help them set and reach goals, reduce the risk of foster care placement and improve the family’s ability to deal with the stressors that impact family life.

Huntington Observation Parent Education (HOPE) A family reunification program for parents with children in foster care that provides a continuum of visitation services.

Huntington Adolescent Safe Option Treatment Program (HASOTP) a therapeutic outpatient counseling program for youth who have been sexually abused or have exhibited sexually reactive/aggressive behaviors and supportive services for their families/caregivers.

Young Parents Program/Hello Baby Program– The Young Parents Program is a parenting program for mothers and fathers 13 through 21 years of age who are struggling with parenting issues.  The Hello Baby program is for any age pregnant and postpartum women and their families.  Both groups meet one evening per week and provide education and peer support, foster friendships and lessen feelings of isolation.  Home visits are provided as needed.

Family Support Services a parent education and life skills building group for parents of all ages.  Group meets Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.  Childcare is provided.  Home visits are provided as needed.

Medicaid Service Coordination provides support and services that promote optimal health, safety and well being to adults who meet the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities criteria for service coordination.

COPE+ - parenting classes/clinical support designed to improve basic parenting skills, develop open and supportive communication between parents and children, help parents understand the complex challenges of adolescence, and help families address problem areas.

ADULT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

 

The primary goal of Huntington’s Adult Development Programs is to reduce isolation and loneliness through outreach, linkages and support services, and to assist with basic needs so that each individual is able to experience their highest degree of independence.

Huntington Adult Rehabilitative Treatment Services (HARTS) provides community based psychiatric and emotional support that is least restrictive and respects the person’s right to remain independent.  HARTS operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Clover Corner/Project Choice a multi-purpose program designed to offer older persons of all abilities daily options for socialization, information, education and leisure time activities.  Lunch is provided.  Clover Corner is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Senior Case Management Services Neighborhood Advisors/ EISEP these programs provide intensive outreach to older persons to support and link them to services and support networks.

Assistance with Basic Needs helps individuals and families meet their needs for nutritional food and adequate clothing and allow them to live with the highest degree of independence.

  • Food Pantry – for individuals and families. Huntington’s Food Pantry is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
     

  • Trading Post – free clothing for families and individuals in need.   The Trading Post is open Monday through Friday from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. 

Workforce Development - provides individuals 21 and over with the necessary and appropriate skills to find and keep meaningful employment leading to upward mobility.
